Geomagnetism is one of the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica (ING) fields of activity and also the name given to one of its departments where both data service and scientific research are undertaken. This report describes activities undertaken at ING in the field of Geomagnetism and also of Rock Magnetism and Paleomagnetism, now stabilized activities in the ING, focussing on results accomplished in the last four (1995-1998) years. The report is divided into an Observatory Repeat Stations and Survey section, a Geomagnetism Research section and a Rock Magnetism and Paleomagnetism section. In the scientific sections some short subsections report a summary on single broad thematic research activities that were taken under consideration in this time interval. A list of scientific papers published on the international scientific literature in the given period, is also enclosed at the end. We wish to express here our gratitude to Prof. Enzo Boschi, President of ING, for his continuous support and encouragement. We also thank all coworkers with whom we have collaborated in the last few years.
