Abstract
This paper presents the revision study of the strongest earthquake (MW 5.6, data source Parametric Catalog of Italian Earthquakes - CPTI15) that occurred in the area of the Province of Rome on August 26, 1806. A preliminary analysis of the data and related sources in the CPTI15 shows several inconsistencies in the current state of knowledge of the event. The aim of the work was therefore to reconsider the entire body of known sources and simultaneously undertake a search for new evidence.
The research resulted in an enrichment of the information picture of the earthquake and in the assignment of new intensity values. The newly estimated macroseismic magnitude of the event is significantly lower than that currently in the catalog record.
