Anatomy of a Work Package Viaggio descrittivo tra archivi e terremoti: tracce idrologiche e memoria storica della ricerca scientifica

Abstract

This work is a brief summary of the activities carried out within the Work Package ‘Historical Seismology’ of the Departmental Project ‘Further’. This WP was responsible for gathering data and observations on hydrological phenomena induced by historical and modern earthquakes in the Project’s three study areas (Sannio-Matese, Irpinia, Pollino). The manuscript, intentionally written in popular scientific language, presents the most significant scientific results, which improved the knowledge of past earthquakes in the studied areas. It also provides a visual narrative of the activities associated with archival research: the types of sources, the buildings that house them, and the variety of documents reviewed (including some surprising oddities and distortions, counterbalanced, however, by unusual examples of scientific foresight).
