MISCELLANEA INGV is a scientific journal that welcomes scientific contributions, with particular emphasis on the publication of data, measurements, observations and related analyses, including preliminary results, which require rapid dissemination within the national and international scientific community.

Submission of a manuscript implies that the content is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under consideration by other journals.

 


FILE FORMAT for submission:

  • Page size: Standard A4

  • Margins: top 2 cm - bottom 1.5 cm - right 3.3 cm - left 1.8 cm

  • Font: Times New Roman, 11 pt

  • Line spacing: single (12 pt), no “Before” and/or “After” spacing

 

To facilitate the review work:

  • All pages must be numbered

  • All lines of text must be numbered


WRITING and FORMATTING

The journal accepts manuscripts in English and Italian.

For submission, the following are required:

  1. Complete file in docx format , including:

    • FRONT PAGE

    • MAIN TEXT, organized according to the specified sections 

    • FIGURES and TABLES, each with a descriptive caption

 

Figures and tables should be embedded in the text close to where they are first mentioned and not added in an appendices.

  1. A Copy of the file in PDF format to facilitate the review process and minimize formatting issues.


FRONT PAGE

Must include:

  • TITLE :

    • In Italian and English for manuscripts written in Italian

    • In English for manuscripts written in English (Italian optional)

    • It must be concise (maximum 125 characters, including spaces)

The use of a title representative of the main result and free of abbreviations is recommended.

Authors are encouraged to propose creative titles, provided they remain relevant and clear.

If deemed necessary, during the review process the title may be subject to suggestions or alternative proposals by the reviewers, the Associate Editor, or the Editor in Chief.

 

  • SHORT TITLE :

    • Required only if the title and first author's name exceed 75 characters (including spaces)

 

  • AUTHORS :

    • Listed as “First Name Last Name”, separated by commas

    • Affiliations indicated with superscript numbers separated by commas

    • the Corresponding author of the submitted manuscript must be Indicated with an asterisk (*) (not superscript).

    • Introduction : not numbered, without subtitles, figures or tables

    • Materials, methods, and results : divided into progressively numbered chapters, paragraphs, and sub-paragraphs. They should contain sufficient detail so that, when  read together with the cited references, all procedures can be replicated.

    • Conclusions/Discussion : focused on the key results of the study

    • Footnotes (if any)

    • Acknowledgements (if any)

    • Bibliography

    • Bibliography (if necessary)

    • Appendix(s) (if applicable)


REFERENCES

In addition to a BIBLIOGRAPHY (i.e. the collection of printed sources consulted for writing the manuscript), a WEBOGRAPHY (i.e. the list of websites or links to documents cited in the text) may also be included.


BIBLIOGRAPHICAL CITATIONS

In the text (and possibly in Figures and Tables captions):

  • Make appropriate use of sources and citations

  • All cited work must appear in the reference list and vice versa (harmonizing references in the body of the text and in the bibliography)

  • In-text citations should be enclosed in square brackets. Example: [Allen and Allen, 1990; Lyell, 1994]

  • Multiple citations within the same square brackets must be separated by semicolons. Example: [Allen and Allen, 1990; Lyell, 1994]

  • Only published or accepted articles should be cited

  • Online sources: Include version and unique DOI identifier ( https://doi.org …)

  • ISSN/ISBN to be included for books and volumes

  • Avoid non-academic or anonymous sources

  • Accepted sources include: books, documents, journals, technical/scientific articles, conference proceedings, datasets, catalogues, theses, etc.

 

The BIBLIOGRAPHY must be prepared according to the APA 7 standard (American Psychological Association - 7th edition). References must include the surname of all authors followed by their initials. The year of publication should be in parentheses. The journal title and volume number (or series number) must be in italics. A DOI as an active link must always be provided.

If there are multiple publications by the same author, they should be listed chronologically from the oldest to the most recent.

To standardize the Bibliography, the use of a free citation generator (e.g. Zotero bib) is recommended.

If necessary, the Bibliography may be divided into sections including primary sources (texts and unpublished sources) and critical literature (secondary).

WEBOGRAPHIC CITATIONS

The Webography may be useful for compiling a list of consulted web addresses.

It must be prepared using the APA standard (Author or organization (date). Web page title. Website title. URL), in alphabetical order by author last name. 

Each web reference must be indicated in the text with progressive numbering, following the order of citation.

In the text (and , if applicable, in Figures and Tables captions):

  • Make appropriate use of sources and citations

     

  • All cited websites must appear in the webography and vice versa i (harmonize the references in the body of the text and in the webography)

     

  • All references must be indicated with progressive numbering

     

  • For very long URLs (more than one line), abbreviation using specific software is recommended (see for example: https://www.urlshort.dev/ )

     

  • In-text citations must be enclosed in square brackets. Example: [1]

     

  • Multiple citations within the same square bracket must be separated by semicolons, without spaces. Example: [1;2]

     

  • Only published and accessible sites should be listed

     

  • Avoid non-identifiable or anonymous sources

     

  • Included: scientific articles, web pages, manuals and reports, PDF documents, newspaper articles, etc.

 

If relevant, it is recommended to indicate the date of access “(last accessed: dd.mm.yyyy)”.

If an author has multiple editions, they should be listed in chronological order from the oldest to the most recent.

To standardize the Webography, the use of a free APA citation generator is recommended: e.g. Zotero bib.

FIGURES and CAPTIONS

  • Accepted formats: .eps, .tiff, .png, .jpg (min. 300 dpi)

  • Figures must also be submitted separately from the text and named as in the manuscript.

  • In-text citation in parentheses and with the full name (not fig. or Fig.). Example: (Figure 1)

  • Captions in Italian and English for manuscripts written in Italian

  • Captions in English only for manuscripts written in English (optional in Italian)

  • For captions, it is recommended not to exceed 500 characters, including spaces.


TABLES and CAPTIONS

  • Formatting:

    • They must use the same body and font as the main text (Font: Times New Roman, 11 pt; line spacing: single (12 pt), no “Before” and/or “After” spacing)

    • They must not exceed the document margins

    • They must be formatted vertically, not horizontally

  • Tables named as in the manuscript, must be cited in the text in parentheses with the full name (not: tab. or Tab.). Example: (Table 1)

  • Tables provided as images must also be submitted separately, named as in the manuscript and in eps, .tiff, .png, .jpg (min. 300 dpi)

  • Captions in Italian and English for manuscripts written in Italian

  • Captions in English only for manuscripts written in English 


MULTIMEDIA ELEMENTS 

QUADERNI di GEOFISICA, published in flipbook format, can host multimedia elements such as videos, audio tracks, etc.

  • Accepted formats: MP4 or YouTube/Vimeo ID, MP3, HTML

  • Captions in Italian and English for manuscripts written in Italian

  • Captions in English only for manuscripts written in English


NOTE 

Footnotes may be used to include sources, additional information, or clarifications,in order not to interrupt the flow of the main text. Their use should be limited to cases where supplementary information is strictly necessary.

Notes must be placed at the bottom of the page, numbered progressively with Arabic numerals, and referenced in the text as superscript.


ABBREVIATIONS and NOMENCLATURES

  • Abbreviations and acronyms must be defined at first occurrence

  • Abbreviations and acronyms should be kept to a minimum, as excessive use can make reading comprehension difficult.

     

  • Non-standard abbreviations should be avoided unless they appear at least four times, and must be defined at first use in the main text.

     

  • In Italian language articles, foreign language words or technical terms must be written in italics (e.g.: Strombus B. - inner edge - fast-stati, etc.)
