The use of art as a vehicle for historical and scientific information in the “Debate on Corals and Tides”
Main Article Content
Abstract
It is important to mix different disciplines as Art and Science. This is something that is always more used in the scientific outreach events. An example is the “Giornata Mondiale degli Oceani: Conoscere, Comprendere, Convivere - World Oceans Day: Know, Comprehend, Coexist” an event organized from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) to celebrate World Oceans Day (WOD), established by the United Nations to raise awareness among the curious and passionate about the impact that human actions have on the ocean, a fundamental resource for the preservation of life on Earth.
In this contest the INGV office in Lerici organized a “conference” in 2023. This was done using an innovative approach: a large infographic was created at the same time using the technique of live scribing while the reseachers debate the issues of their research. This document discusses the role of art in scientific communication and explores the topics that were analyzed during the conference, which focused on the study of corals from a historical and scientific perspective. At the end of the conference, the link between the study of climate change and corals was also discussed, as well as research into the relationship between tidal variation and climate change.
