Abstract
The Blog‐magazine INGVterremoti (http://ingvterremoti.com) is the main communication channel of the EARTHQUAKE Department of the INGV, created to disseminate information on ongoing seismic activity and to report the results of the INGV studies and research. Today it represents the point of reference for information on seismicity in Italy and in the world, especially during strong earthquakes, seismic sequences and tsunamis. The high number of citations by other websites and social channels and by the main newspapers testifies to the high diffusion of the contents and their reliability and recognizability.
The blog was born in the days of the May 2012 seismic sequence in the Po Valley with the aim of providing continuous and timely information especially during even long‐lasting seismic sequences. Another important aspect that led to its birth was to counter misinformation and thus fight rumors and fake news that always emerge during earthquake crises.
Since the beginning, all the contents of the blog have been integrated and shared on the INGVterremoti communication channels (Twitter, Facebook, YouTUBE, iOS and Android APPs, Story Maps), completing over the years the offer of information on INGV earthquakes which is still evolving with the birth of new channels and new formats.
The INGVterremoti blog maintained the original 2012 layout until March 2020: the structure of the home page included the timeline of the latest articles and some static pages on general topics. Since 2020, with the new interface, the blog has transformed into an e‐magazine improving the visibility and search for contents by integrating photo news, events, social timelines.
Today the information on the blog consists mainly of the publication of articles organized within real periodic columns and thematic categories that cover multiple topics: from earthquakes in Italy and around the world to earthquakes in history, seismic and geodetic monitoring, hazard, seismic risk and tsunamis.
